My Favourite Sci Fi Theme Tune

I found this sci fi theme tune and I like it because I like the different types of beat and rythms going on at the same time. The tune is pretty catchy. It is lost in space from star trek. Here is a link if you want to hear it. http://www.soundboard.com/sb/Sci_Fi_TV_Themes

My Four Clock Times

This is my Google drawing about my four clock times I chose.

My Handmade Clock

This is my handmade clock I made at school. When we made it we had to use containers that was round. Then we traced around the container on paper and cut it out. After that we put on the numbers from 1 to 12 and then decorated the clock. I made short and long clock hand for the minute and hour hand.

My Evaluating Activity

This is my online art about what the solar system would look like in the one thousand years. I looked at how the planet evolve and start to change colour depending on its atmosphere. Then I started to look at if it would survive the catastrophe in the solar system.  Like if an astroid or meteor smashed or crashed into the planets and then at the end I ended up with the future of the solar system.

LI To show time on an analogue clock

We have been learning to show times on an analogue clock.  First we made our own clock and decorated it.  We had to be careful to show the time correctly.

1. 9 o’clock
2.  Half past 7
3.  Quarter past 12
4.  Quarter past 5
5.  Quarter to 10
6.  Quarter to 3

My Maths Pentominoes Blog Post

Today Room 7 has been learning about pentominoes. That means that there are five squares stuck by its side in any shape. This task was created by Mrs Miller for Maths. The Task was to solve a pentominoe puzzle with a buddy. With my buddy we arranged and rearrange shapes into a small or big rectangles. This task took a lot of thinking and patience. Finally we figured out a two shapes and they were both rectangles. We thought this task was a bit hard and frustrating.

2014 Manaiakalani Film Festival

It was the seventh celebration of the Manaiakalani Film Festival. It is a entertaining, funny, and exciting event that happens every year. It was heart beating to finally go this year and see the wonderful school made movies. There are 12 schools that are in the Manaiakalani cluster. There were one hundred movies made by the Manaiakalani Cluster schools but we only got to see a preview of most of them. My favourite movie was the science hunger games which was made by Tamaki College. I liked it because it had a bit of slow motion, some action and comedy. I also liked the acting and their facial expressions. I also liked St Pius film about paying attention because it sends a message to pay attention or else you will miss out on things. I hoped that we could of watched more films but our time was up. It was fun and I will definitely go next year.

Panmure Bridge Junior Cultural Concert

Yesterday at Panmure bridge School, the senior block went to the hall for the junior cultural concert. There were lots of cultures performing. Each class in the juniors picked a culture to study on dance. There was Tonga, which was performed by room two, Maori, performed by room one, Cook Islands, by room three and Samoa which was by room four. My favourite performance was the Cook Island performance by room three because there was a band playing music for them. The beat of the instruments was amazing. The band played so loud, that the people standing outside the hall could hear the them. I think that all the juniors who danced that danced on stage, had so much enthusiasm and bravery to go up on there and put on a good show.

My Explanation: Knowing how Bicycles Work.

Knowing How a Bicycle Works

If you are new to bicycles a or you just want to know how a bicycle work, then I am going to tell you how it works. A bicycle is machine that is very fun and takes a lot of skill to ride. It has a very smart mechanism of making the bicycle move.

A bicycle is a self control machine. That means that the person who is riding the bicycle is making the machine move. The power comes from the legs. All you have to do is keep the circulation the bike going if you want to make it move. The rider puts their feet on the pedals and then pushes them in a circle. It then sends a message to the back wheel to make it turn. The pedals are attached to a circular piece of metal that has little pegs sticking out for chain to go on. Now the chain is that main thing that gets the bike moving. It is connected in a circle so it looks like a metal necklace. The chain goes onto the small pegs of the metal circle and locks onto them. Then the chain is connected to the back wheel which has another metal piece with pegs. So now the chain will be connected from the pedals to the back wheel. The pedals are connected to the seat which the person whoever is riding the bike has to sit on and push the pedals.

The next part of a bicycle is the back and front wheel. Now the back wheel of the bicycle is the only wheel that push the bike to move forward while the front wheel is for steering. The front
bar are very tricky so there is grip on them so the rider can get a grip of them. The handle bars are also a bit hard to steer with, so you need to get used to the handling of them. When you turn the handles, you have to turn it in a circle. So it is like you a mixing the inside of a bowl. It is different to steering in a vehicle. When you turn the handles it will turn the front wheel to make it turn the bike. You also have to hold the handle bars on the bicycle to keep the balance of the bicycle upright or else it will tip over.

The final piece of the bike I am going to talk about is the brakes. Brakes are installed on a bike because in case you want or need to stop. The brakes are placed on the handlebars so that it is easy for the rider to reach them. The handle of the brakes are like a trigger so when you pull them it will send a message through a coil wire down to the wheels of the bike. The brake which is attached to the wheel is the thing that stops the bike. When you activate the brake it will grapple onto the wheel stop it from moving. The back wheel brake is usually for a slow down brake and the front wheel is for an emergency brake to make a sudden stop to the bike. If you are new to bikes, it usually takes time and skill to get used to riding a bicycle. Also if you really practice and practice your skills on a bike you can do tricks on them.

I have now told you how a bike works. The main thing that makes the bike move is yourself. All the power comes from your arms and your legs. Also if you need to stop use the brakes. I think the bicycle is a very well designed.

Auckland Museum Trip

Yesterday rooms five, seven and eight went to the Auckland Museum. It was fun and everyone learnt a lot. I liked the of the trip was when we had to go any where throughout the museum. When we got there we went into a room upstairs. We learnt about migration and why people migrated here from the pacific. I learnt that there are three different categories or groups of islands in the Pacific Ocean. There is Melanesia who are the people with dark skin and there is Polynesia which means that there is a lot or many people in the island. The last one is Micronesia. My favourite part was a room with all the weapons because there was so many pistols and rifles displayed in the glass cabinets. There was mostly old guns and swords but I still liked them. Inside a massive cabinet there was samurai amour sitting on a stand and next to it was a huge samurai sword held on a stool. The sword looked like it was about at least a meter long. That was my most favourite weapon in the room. Then we carried on walking until we got to a room that looked like we were in a trench and it showed a prop of a man sitting inside the trench holding. The room was showing us was it was like in the trenches in the war.

Duffy Theatre Show

Today the juniors and years five and six classrooms went to see Duffy Theatre. The characters in the story were Duffy, Rosie and Uncle Bingo. My favourite character was Uncle Bingo because he was the funniest. The story is about Uncle Bingo who doesn't like to read so Duffy and Rosie have to get him into reading. Then at the end Uncle Bingo reads a book about ballerinas that was a present from Rosie. After he reads the book he goes to his rugby grand final and starts doing ballerina moves. I like the story because it sends a message to Read Read Read! I hope that when they come next year it will be even better.

My Term 3 Small Moment

Game Day
After a little warm up I felt as ready as ever. My heart was pumped and my whole body was ready for some tackling. I stepped onto the field with my team getting into position like we were going to do a haka. Everybody waited for that annoying high pitch sound of the whistle to blow. As soon as the whistle blew the ball was booted all the way to the goal post. The fullback picked up the ball and ran it up to the opposition. Our fullback was one of the hardest people in our team. He smashed into them like a wrecking ball. Then I dashed into the ruck to grab the ball. I grabbed it and headed straight for the corner. I was almost at the try line but then I started to slow down and before I knew it I was all worn. So I went to ground and got in position for the half back to receive the ball.

It was past the first half and both teams were exhausted. My team didn't care about being exhausted and just kept playing . It was already fifteen minutes into the second half my team just kept driving the opposition back and back. Before we knew it we were close to the opposition's try line and I was hoping to get the ball and make a try. The ball sat there clear for me to grab so I grabbed it and ran straight for the try line. I looked around for any gaps and ran through them. I sprinted as fast as I could right down the sideline trying not to let anyone bump me off into touch. I managed to find myself flying through air reaching my dirty arms out to get that ball onto the line. A few seconds later I heard the whistle blow and called it out a try. Not long after he blew the whistle again to say that it was full time.

My team jumped up cheering and cheering. After that we shook hands with Ponsonby and went to see our coach. My coach said we all played great and we had great defense not letting them get past us. The score was fifty four to zero. I also got two tries in the first and second half of the game. The coach and assistant coach called out the player of the day and it was the second prop. He got rewarded for great running. everyone clapped and got ready to leave. I thought that if I played better next week I could get player of the day.

My Art Reflection

This week room 7 have been focusing on their paintings. Our goal was to try and paint in a style like a famous artist Ton Schulten. Ton Schulten painted in a different way. He used a the same colour for his land and sky but he used different blues for the sky and different greens or browns for the land. When we started our painting Mrs Miller only gave us five colours blue, red, yellow, white and black which were the primary colours. Then if we needed a colour like green or brown we had to find out what colours to mix to get that colour. I found out all the colours I needed to get the colours I needed like brown which I needed blue, yellow and red. Finally I finished and I am proud of my awsome painting.

My Term 2 Reflection

This term room 7 have been busy learning a lot. We have done a lot in term 2. I think that everyone in room 7 has learnt a lot of things. My favourite subjects are maths, sports and art.

Art is one of my favourite subjects because I like to express my culture on a piece of paper I like to do drawing and draw patterns and do lots of painting. Everyone has been doing a lot of colour mixing and finding new colours. This term we did paintings based of a artist named Ton Schulten. He paints landscapes but he has a style he does it in.

My other favourite subject is sports. When we have kiwi sports I am always excited to go out of the classroom and play some sport. My favourite sport is rugby so I like to do lots of tackling. I also like playing soccer and softball. I like going to kiwi sports because I to run around and get more fit.

I also like doing math because I like to solve equations and figuring out the answers. My favourite site I like to learn my basic facts on is XtraMath because it helps me to learn my basic facts and know them faster. I also go on Sumdog because I enjoy the math games they have. This term I think that I have been achieving my goals and moving up my with maths.

Room 7 have learnt a lot this term and next term I can learn more.

My Information Report About Weta

Weta

Weta have been around for a very long time. They have outlived dinosaurs. Weta are invertebrates which means that they don’t have a backbone.Weta are one of the heaviest insects in the world.

Habitat

Weta are mostly found and live in New Zealand. They are known to only be found in New Zealand but there are also some scattered around the world. People have called them other names. Weta can be found in shrubs, forests and caves. They also live in holes underneath stones, rotting logs or in tree like the tree weta.

Appearance

You can tell the difference between a male and a female weta because the female has a larger ovipositor (which is like a stinger). Weta have their ears on their knees which helps them to feel vibrations of noises around. Their ears aren't like normal ears, they have little holes which are so small that they are hard to see . They have feelers on their bottoms called cerci (sir-key) which help the weta to sense vibrations like the ears.

Species

In the world there are over 70 different species of weta. There are five different types of Weta which are the tree weta, cave weta, giant weta, ground weta and tusked weta. The giant weta is the heaviest insect in the world. It is so heavy it can not jump. They can grow up to eighty two millimeters long. A pregnant female giant weta can weight up to seventy one grams.

Weta are herbivores which means that they eat leaves and plants but weta have been said to have eaten other insects. The word “weta” is from Maori language, where singular and plural are the same.

The Botanical Gardens

On Tuesday The seniors went to the Botanical Gardens. Everyone was ready to see the all kinds of plants learn new things. My favourite part of the trip was when we went into the forest. As we got to the entrance of the forest one of the ladies that worked at the Botanical Gardens was there to give us a tour of the garden. Her name was Sarah. We were going to do an activity in the forest. First at the entrance we got told that if we were really quite we could be able to spot a fantail or a kereru. Later on as we were walking we paired up and each got a mirror. The challenge was to try and look up at the different shapes of leaves through the mirror. There was lots of different shapes in the leaves. We stopped again. We each got a magnifying glass. The next challenge was to try and find invertebrates. Lots of people found some and used their magnifying glass to look up close at it. I really liked looking at the invertebrates. We saw and learnt a lot of things at the Botanical Gardens.
