Day 6 - Activity 1

Today I have carried on with my daily holiday challenge and have gotten up to day 6. I have now had my first night in Chile and have walked out of the hotel to go to a restaurant for breakfast. In Chile, their commonly eaten breakfast meals are, baked avocados, eggs and sausages and rauman. These types of foods are very different to what we have in New Zealand. In New Zealand, our typical normal foods are porridge, Milo and toast, and baked beans and toast. They are actually similar with  what we eat in New Zealand, for instance, we also eat eggs and sausages and avocados. I wouldn't regularly eat these foods for my breakfast every but would on some days.

Summer Holiday Learning Journey - Day 5

Today I have looked at a table of phrases and greetings. I have then explained my feelings by writing a poem.

Landing In Chile

I stood there frightened to ask the whereabouts of my destination
Everyone looked so grumpy and silent
As I walked closer I could feel in my guts, the hesitation
What would I say, Not a word I knew
This is the worst situation

No one ever would want to be in my shoes
Then something hit me, a hint or a clue
My face went straight to yellow from blue

Day 4 - Activity 2

I have read a description to three books(Catching fire, Matilda and Diary of a Wimpy Kid - The Ugly Truth) and would have recommend one for curious kiwi. Catching Fire, written by Suzanne Collins. This book is really in a position where you would want to know what happens next. There is shocking parts of the story by the read of the description.

Day 4 of Summer Holiday Learning Journey

I am now aboard the plane with curious kiwi and ready to leave for Chile... But curious kiwi has forgot his book so that he can read on the flight. Think about the the books you have read in the past, which ones were you favourite? I remember a few years ago, when I used to read the Geronimo Stilton books written by Elisabetta Dami. I would recommenced this for 8-10 years old. This series is very interesting because of the mystery and there is always something new on every page. It is about a mice named Geronimo Stilton and how he goes on amazing adventures with different people!

Day 2 - Activity 2!

The next part of the day 2's activity is... If I was given a million dollars and had to start my own airline in New Zealand what would I call it, and what will be my logo. So I have decided on my name and logo so I can start my fake business. The name of my airline is called,"Pacific Airways." I choose this because it represents my culture being a pacific islander and my airlines go to any country in the pacific ocean!

Day 2! Activity 1

It is now day 2 of my learning journey! Today's task was to watch the Air New Zealand's men in black safety video.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji65WI5QLZI) The first activity was to list three things you need to do to stay safe on a airplane: 1. Listen and Obey your flight attendants and crew aboard the flight so that you are aware and updated. 2. When the seat belt sign comes up, make sure you are buckled up properly. Not to tight, and not to loose. 3. When a bag type object drops in front of your face, pull the strap right around the back of your head with the mouth piece going over your mouth and nose. After that pull the two shorter strings on the sides of the mouth piece and you can now breathe. This safety video taught me a lot about being safe on an airplane.

Summer Holiday Learning Journey - Day 1!

Today was the first day of the summer learning journey project. The summer learning journey is a holiday challenge that will take us around the world to learn new and interesting things! There were six main countries across the 6 different continents. The country I wanted to visit and focus on was Chile. Did you know that Chile is the longest country in world, reaching 2,647 miles long!(4,259 km) Also, until 2005, married couples were not allowed to have an divorce. Chile has had the lowest divorce rate globally. In 2006 January, Michelle Bachelet became first ever woman president for Chile!

Today Mrs Anderson showed us a poster from Manaiakalani showing how to write quality blog comments. There were three features we needed. Positive, you say things that are positive and the good things they done. Helpful, something they could work on next time. Thoughtful, does it remind you of any memories, can you connect to it.

2016 Student Leader Nominations

On Monday, there were chosen nominees for student leaders in 2016. I was lucky enough to be chosen as a nominee for head boy next year. I took this opportunity proudly. The student leaders were then set to write a paragraph, reasoning why they should become a leader.

Sebastian

Head boy for 2016 is a really big opportunity for me. It is a chance for me to make a change in my life and make a huge step. I would like to have the chance to prove to students, teachers and others what a great leader I could become. Becoming the head boy for Panmure Bridge School, is one of the goals I have set this year and hope to accomplish it. I will try to take my learning seriously and have make more risks with it. I consider myself to not be an as confident person but being a leader for the school will motivate me more to be a confident speaker to a larger audience.  I have participated effectively in this year's activities and events. There have been much events happening this year that I have been taking part and participating mostly in. It would be a privilege and honour to be the head boy for panmure bridge school in 2016.

Maths 'Quick Writes' Writing in Maths

What is Problem Solving?

Does it only happen in maths?

What is problem solving? Do you know? This is a simple question that nearly every year 7 and 8 can answer this. It’s simply when you are trying to figure out an answer to whatever problem you are solving. For example, when you are given an equation to solve, you usually find the numbers you are working with then you use the best strategy to answer your question. Then when you have your answer and it’s correct, you have just done problem solving.
When problem solving you are working out an solution to your problem and at the same time you are developing your maths knowledge and skills. There won’t usually be a answer or hint there for you, that's why problem solving is one of the most important parts and aspects of doing mathematics.
Not only in maths problem solving can be used, but also in our daily lives. Like when you need to figure how much time there is until you need to do something else. As Well as detectives and when they try to solve the mystery crime or find a solution to who had done it. There is many other problem solving in our lives.
Today for our Maths Quick Writes, room 5 all looked at one question. What is problem solving? Does it only happen in math? Our task was to answer these questions and write and explain about these two questions. We were learning to understand more about maths language because we weren't very good with it.We used the the Rm 5 and 6 rubric and a critical friend to help us with our paragraphs.

New Zealand Flag Voting Results - Panmure Bridge School

Today was the results of the Panmure Bridge School NZ flag vote. We were a bit interrupted by the fire alarm but we got to hear the results. So as you can see, the first flag(Black and blue fern) was voted for by 60 people. That is 25% of the of the votes. Then the next one was the Red Peak, which was voted by 25 people. This was 11% of the peoples vote. Now the Koru flag had only 4% of votes, and the flag with the most votes was the Blue and White fern which had 38% of the votes.(87 voted)

Oral Language - Changing the NZ Flag

For our oral language activity, we had to talk about choosing a new flag for New Zealand out of five chosen flags. We then had to pick one that we would vote for. We used 4.3.2.1 so that we can explain why we had picked this flag and why it should be flown and New Zealand's new flag. The 4 minutes was for us to read thought the flag descriptions and the other three we had to talk to others about our choice. My choice as you can see in the picture is the silver fern(red, white and blue) because it looks very like a New Zealand flag and shows the cultures all in one. It also shows a bit of our past and history like how we fought in WWI and how the NZ soldiers spilled there blood for us.(which is the red part) It still has the southern cross and the blue part being the water surrounding Aotearoa.
