Should New Zealand Change It's Flag?

Do you think it is a great idea for New Zealand’s flag to be changed? Do you think a piece of history should be thrown away and replaced with a flag that has no respect at all to our ancestors. In my opinion I don’t tolerate it at all! Since this debate happened I have been against it and don’t want to change the flag.

Why should we have to change the flag that has been flying proudly in our skies? The flag that was flown in war by our ancestors. Our soldiers have died in pride under the current flag. The flag shows NZ’s history and how we used to be part of the British Empire. It shows the southern cross and how our ancestors found this land by following these stars. It will be disrespectful to NZ to change our flag now! When it has been in our lives since 1902. About 70% citizens have disagreed to changing the flag want to keep it the same.

Our flag has been represented many of times in international events.  When people see our flag they will recognized it to be from Aotearoa and if we change now no one will really know its New Zealand. It has been represented in world cups, Olympics and winter sports. Sometimes when we reach the top places in event, other countries will remember our flag. Our flag is achieving, recognizable and dedicated to NZ. We are happily proud of our flag and will keep it the same.

If we change the flag, we will be using 25.7 million dollars on changing every flag in NZ. If this money goes to waste I will build a time machine and travel back in time to stop this incident! This amount of money could go towards those in need of it most like food for the young, houses for the homeless, helping families with money issues or new schools and playgrounds. It would have to take up lots of time to change these flags and could stop some people from working and earning money for their families. NZ citizens need this money more than changing the flag.

Now what do you think about the New Zealand flag being changed. Again I never liked the idea at all! Remember about the history, meaning and the amount of money it would take. Our current flag is a symbol of our nation and will hope to keep it the same. That’s my opinion about this debate and I will keep my point of view and I will keep it strongly!

How to Write a Persuasive Text

Our task was to make a poster that would teach others about what persuasive text is and how to write it. I used Google Drawing to make this poster. It shows what O.R.E.O means and language features you use in your piece of writing to make your persuasive argument better.
