Our day at The Panmure Library
Today we were all excited to go to the Panmure Library. We were going because we were going to learn about our local mountain which was called Mount Wellington. The only thing that was on my mind was that we had to walk! A teacher from the Juniors called Mrs Ang came with us. When we got there a lady was waiting for us. Her name was Ruth. She was one of the librarian at the library. She took us up to a room up stairs. There were four people in there. There names were Pare, Juanita, Ole and Kare. They introduced themselves and said they were from the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Then they separated into two groups because they were going to tell us a story about two fairy tribes and we were acting in it.
One group were called the Tuhere tribe that I was in and the name of the other tribe was patu piarehe. The other group used rakau (stick) for their bit in the story and we used patu (short hand club) for our bit. Our teacher was Juanita and the other groups teacher was Kare. Juanita taught us how to hold the patu properly and some actions with it. Kare the other teacher taught the other group how to hold the rakau properly and some actions too. So when we finished practicing we sat back on the mat and told the story with our actions. The story was about the two fairy tribes that could only come out at night, and a princess and a prince both from the Tuhere and Patu piarehe and then it started a war. Then we had to do our actions for the story.
After the play had finished we each got handed a piece of clay. Then they gave a us a matau and we had to push it into our piece of clay which made the shape in the clay. We had to fold it up into a tissue and put in a bag that Mrs Miller was holding. Finally we had a quiz. each teacher asked us a question about the what we did before. If you got the question right you would get a prize. I got it right and won the prize with four other people.
